Boston Harbor Yacht Club History

  • In 1867, The Boston Yacht Club was founded, in Boston by men with an interest in sailing.
  • In 1874, to be closer to the water, a club house was built on land in South Boston located in the City Point Area. This provided a deed water anchorage for piers, rafts and boats.
  • In 1898 the club house was moved across the Boulevard, to it's present site.
  • In 1962, when the property was up for sale, a new corporation was formed to buy it. It was to be known as The Boston Harbor Yacht Club.
  • On September 22, 2005, because of it's historical significance, The Boston Harbor Yacht Club was accepted for recognition in the "National Register of Historical Places".

All four clubs on the strand way are now recognized as the
"South Boston Boat Clubs Historical District".
